Drew's First Communion

He waited for this day for a very long time. He's been playing mass for years. His "Bodies of Christ" have ranged from animal crackers, oyster crackers, tortilla chips, bread and the obvious: Necco Wafers.

Today he got to receive The Real Deal. From time to time over the past few days, I would ask him if he was nervous. Each time his answer was the same: "No Mom! I'm excited!" We studied, we practiced and we counted down the days.

It was wonderful, beautiful and touching. He was so excited, yet very humble and reverent. He was gracious to all who congratulated him, and seemed genuinely surprised when he received (some very generous) gifts.

The preemie? He's all grown up.

Dodging bees and complaining about the sunshine (*rolleyes*) made getting a picture with Grammie a chore.

All families of First Communicants processed in at the beginning of mass. With the Egans, that's akin to herding cats.

It was really a great day all around. We were so blessed that Grammie made a return trip. She and Gramps just left two weeks ago! Without Grammie, our family pew would have been empty. She's the best!

Drew (and his parents) really enjoyed and appreciated all the gifts and cards he received. We'll be working on the thank-you notes this week.
