I guess Drew returns the sentiment. According to his personal care aide and his classroom teacher, Drew and Maura are pretty sweet on one another. He refers to her as "the lovely Maura" and they are quick to chose the other when instructed to find a partner. They sit near, if not next to, each other at lunch. Maura lost a tooth at school and cried. Drew was mortified on her behalf and cried right along with her.
When the invitation to Maura's birthday party came home, he was beyond thrilled. He counted down the days and was very excited when the day finally arrived. He wore his new clothes and a "church shirt" because he wanted to look good. When we got to the party, Maura was so happy he was there. The suave devil that he is, he showed off his new Batman sunglasses as well as his GameBoy (and Batman game) that he has so expertly slipped past both his father and me. She was all doe-eyed and attentive.
I asked to take their picture together, and both jumped at the opportunity. My sweet boy even put his arm around her. When the party was over and Drew was saying his thank-you's and good-bye's....there was a hug! Maura's Mom and I just had to giggle. They really are cute together. She's quiet and reserved, he's loud and bigger-than-life. But they like each other, and it's sweet.
For now.
