Miscellaneous Vacation Pics and Words....

Ok, things have finally settled down enough for me to add those words I promised.

Vacation was amazing. We all had a great time. The kids really enjoyed all the aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Every day Gabe goes through the whole litany of aunts and uncles asking where they are. It always starts with Uncle Kevin, and ends with Grandma. We always answer "Uncle Kevin's house", "Aunt Mary Pat's house" etc, and end with "Grandma's house". I think he always lists Grandma last because he always immediately asks to go back to Grandma's house. The kid who constantly asked to go home, wants to go BACK to the beach.

Drew is still in Big Kid mode, complete with sleeping in. He reminds me daily that he is now Big and there are certain things he is no longer interested in. Yesterday he told me he wanted to be just like Cullen and play some XBox game. Those teenage boys definitely left an impression on Drew.

Caroline loves looking at the pictures from vacation and calling out the names of the people she sees. She remembers everyone (even Madi!) and wants to know when we are going back to the beach. She especially misses Emma and Uncle Larry. I don't know what kind of spell Uncle Larry cast on my daughter, but it's a powerful one indeed!

We pretty much hung out at the house/pool/beach this year. We had no side trips anywhere, and don't feel like we missed out on anything. The kids LOVED the beach. This year we had great tide pools. As soon as the tide was out, these tide pools would appear. They were perfect for the kids, calm water that was just deep enough for little ones. Caroline called them "puddles" and would not go in until the waves were gone and the water was perfectly calm. The only way I could convince her that the waves would go away was to tell her they (the waves) would be turned off. Of course she asked who turned off the waves. Doh! Instead of trying to explain phases of the moon and the tide, I told her Baby Jesus turned the waves off and on. She readily accepted this explanation, and every day would ask if Baby Jesus had turned off the waves in the puddle yet.

One day we spotted a crab scurrying past. I tried to catch it, but he snapped his little claws at me. About ten minutes later he reappeared, literally under my feet. Cullen and Riley were able to catch him. We all had a great time watching him in the bucket for a while before letting him go. Drew was particularly interested.

We spent most of our days on the beach. The kids are all nicely tanned, except Gabe, who is downright BRONZE. Rob burnt his back again this year, and perhaps next year won't make fun of the 50 SPF ("t-shirt in a bottle") that I put on the kids. We had a great time hanging out with the family, playing cards, doing puzzles, cooking, EATING!, laughing and just gabbing. It was such a relaxing and fun vacation. We can't wait to do it again next year!

Thanks Pat/Grandma!!!
